A man has landed in jail for commenting “offensive remarks” on the verified Facebook page of Bangladesh Police.
Munshiganj Judicial Magistrate’s Court sent Mizanur Rahman, 26, of the district’s Sreenagar upazila, to jail around 12:30pm yesterday.
Jamal Uddin, the court inspector in Munshiganj, confirmed this to The Daily Star.
Mohammad Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Sreenagar Police Station, said a case was filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act, 2006 against the accused.
Mizanur was arrested from his home in Sreenagar upazila on Wednesday and produced before the court a day later, he added.
The accused recently returned home from abroad and was jobless at the moment, he further said.
Contacted, none of the top officials of the district police said what Mizanur mentioned in the “derogatory remark”.
Sources said policemen were also sent to Munshiganj from Dhaka to arrest the accused.
