A 30-year-old man was killed, and 11 others were injured in clashes between two groups of villagers over a land dispute at the Chargolgolia area under Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj on Friday, police said.

The deceased is Falan Mia of Chargolgolia.

Mizanul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station, said that two groups of villagers, followers of Yeakub Mia and Joynal Mia, clashed sporadically with sharp weapons in the afternoon. “The clashes over possession of land left several people injured.”

The injured people were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and different local hospitals. Falan, a follower of Yeakub, was declared dead at DMCH.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control, the OC said.
